Firefighters arrived on the scene just after 7am, but couldn’t free the animal until they had made the area safe four hours later.

They used hydraulic cutting equipment to free the horse and were helped by a specialist large animal team from Rugby, Warwickshire.

Mr Shaw added: ‘We didn’t leave the scene until about 11.30am, we spent about four hours making it safe and removing the horse slowly.’

The animal suffered a few small cuts on the side of her hind legs, but fortunately she was not seriously injured.
