The Brighton man shot during home invasion robberytogether with a 39-year-old woman, who also lived in the home and suffered facial injuries, were taken to a hospital for treatment, according to John Bradley, Brighton #police spokesman.
Two male suspects wearing masks have not been captured.
Police were called at 3:25 a.m. Monday to a home on the 200 block of South Aspen Drive in Brighton.
A couple, who live in a basement apartment, went upstairs when they heard yelling. When they saw a man wearing a mask, the husband told his wife to go back downstairs to protect their four young children, Bradley said.
The husband confronted one of the suspects, who #shot him twice in the left leg and once in the left leg, he said.
After #shooting the man, the suspects locked themselves in an upstairs bedroom and fled through a bedroom window, he said.
There were four young children in the home, but they weren’t harmed.
“A couple who occupy the basement of the home reported being awakened by yelling from the upstairs residence. When they went upstairs to see what was happening, they saw a male dressed in all black and wearing a mask,” police said in a statement. “The man told his wife to go back downstairs to call police and protect their four young children, saying the other male had a gun. The male resident then confronted the unidentified male, and was subsequently shot three times, twice in the left leg and once in the right.”
The burglars got away after escaping out of a bedroom window.
No names or suspect information have been released.
