Ride-haling app Uber has lost a court battle to stop plans for strict new rules on the need for its drivers and those of other private hire services to prove their reading and writing skills in English to operate in London.
Last year Britain’s David Cameron said he has unveiled a new plan designed to push immigrants – and in particular, Muslim women – to learn English. Under the new system, revealed he said the government will invest $28 million in English classes for women in isolated communities. Those who still can’t pass an English-language test after two and a half years in the country could face deportation.
