He allegedly worked on behalf of the Sinaloa Drug Cartel in Mexico, and was first captured in 2009 when he confessed to helping the cartel ‘get rid of bodies’.

Prosecutors believe he may have been solely responsible for the murder of at least 300 people for which he is still awaiting sentencing.

It is thought he put the bodies of his victims in barrels of acid before burying their remains in mass graves in ‘La Gallera’ – the Chicken Coop – in the city of Tijuana near the border with the US.

Police found 16,500 litres (4,300 gallons) of organic material and between 170 and 200 kilograms (374 – 441 pounds) of human bones at the alleged killing grounds.

Authorities think it could equate to 650 victims.

Digging at the site began in 2012, and authorities began finding possible human remains last year.

According to court documents, Lopez said he was working on a farm when cartel bosses asked him to carry out an ‘experiment’ around 1996.

They put litres of water and acid in a barrel then dropped in a leg of meat then let it sit for two hours.

It successfully dissolved and Lopez said a few months later the bosses came back with a body.

‘They called me again and told me that now they were going to experiment with human flesh,’ he told a court.

In Mexico, where on a daily basis the drug trafficking leaves 10 deads and at least one shoot out, being hitman (sicario) would seem to be a job like any other, with men which that kill clean and fast or , like 'El Pozolero', who dissolved corpses in acid by 600 dollars.
