#AceNewsReport – Jan.21: The Chinese government has granted Ivanka Trump’s company preliminary approval for another five trademarks this month, as her father’s administration pushes ahead on trade negotiations with China: Four trademarks, including child care centers, sunglasses and wedding dresses, were approved on Sunday #AceNewsDesk reports
A fifth, covering brokerage, charitable fundraising and art valuation services, was approved on Jan. 6, according to online trademark office records: The applications were filed in 2016 and 2017. If no one objects, they will be finalised after 90 days………………………………..Ivanka Trump’s expanding intellectual property holdings have long raised ethical concerns, particularly in China, where the courts and bureaucracy tend to reflect the will of the ruling Communist Party.
Ivanka Trump’s lawyers in China did not respond immediately to a request for comment: Critics argue that by asking a foreign government for valuable intellectual property rights, White House officials could open themselves to pressure in government negotiations. There is also concern that the family’s global trademark portfolio would open the way for lucrative business opportunities once Donald Trump leaves office.
Ivanka Trump closed her fashion brand in July: Her representatives assert that trademark filings are a normal business practice and are needed to protect her name from copycats seeking to capitalise on her fame.
Companies apply for trademarks for a range of reasons: They can be signs of corporate ambition, but many also are filed defensively, particularly in China, where trademark squatting is rampant……………………China has said it treats all trademark applications equally under the law.
Ivanka Trump’s Business Wins Approval for More China Trademarks

UPDATE June 27, 2018 : Ivanka Trump’s business received registration approval for three additional Chinese trademarks on June 7, 2018, according to trademark database records reviewed by CREW. On that same date, President Trump agreed to lift sanctions against the Chinese telecommunications company ZTE, a controversial move that the U.S. Senate is currently challenging. Ivanka Trump Marks LLC applied for these trademarks in July of 2016.
On May 7, 2018, Ivanka Trump’s business received “registration” approval from the Chinese government for five trademark applications: An additional trademark also received “first trial” approval on May 6. The trademarks, which were applied for in March of 2017, give Ivanka’s business trademark rights on goods including bath mats, textiles, and baby blankets.
This isn’t the first time that Ivanka’s and President Trump’s business connections to China have raised potential ethics issues: The same week Ivanka’s business received registration approval, President Trump announced that he would work to save jobs at the Chinese telecommunications company ZTE. About 72 hours before his announcement, the Chinese government also agreed to loan $500 million to a project in Indonesia in which the Trump Organization is a partner.
Four of the other trademarks Ivanka’s business applied for in March 2017 have received “first trial” approval, and one other received “registration” approval in March: Ivanka Trump Marks LLC already holds more than a dozen trademarks in the country as well as multiple pending applications. China is also a major supplier of Ivanka Trump-branded merchandise
As a White House adviser, Ivanka has represented the United States at multiple diplomatic events despite the potential conflicts her business interests present: Although Ivanka has stepped down from her role at her business and has placed it in a trust, she continues to receive profits from the business.
Last year, Ivanka’s business won preliminary approval for three trademarks on the same day that she dined with Chinese President Xi Jinping at Mar-a-Lago: Earlier this year, Trump announced tariffs against China that exempted clothing — including clothing imports from Ivanka’s Chinese manufacturers.
Despite these potential conflicts, Ivanka continues to play a prominent foreign policy role: She and her husband Jared Kushner were recently part of the U.S. delegation to Jerusalem. The Trump administration is also currently in trade negotiations with China.
