(WASHINGTON) Pentagon has forwarded a list of hundreds of projects that COULD but not WOULD be impacted to Congress they say it will not affect military housing, barracks, or dormitory projects and that only projects with award dates after Sept.30: will be potentially tapped include a command and control facility & drone hangar in S.K., SOF training facility in Estonia, a Cyber Operations facility in Virginia, a mission training complex in Germany and a JIC in Louisiana but still to be decided PDF list #AceNewsDesk reports

#AceNewsReport – Mar.19: The Pentagon has sent Congress a list of projects that could be impacted by President Donald Trump’s decision to declare a national emergency and repurpose military construction funds to pay for his sought-after border wall with Mexico; The list, which includes a pool of projects valued at $12.9 billion that are “unobligated,” meaning that construction contracts have yet to be awarded; Should acting Secretary of Defense Patrick Shanahan “determine that construction along the southwest border is necessary to aid the mission of military personnel supporting the Department of Homeland Security, some projects within this pool may be used to fund up to $3.6B in barrier construction,” Lt. Col. Joe Buccino, a spokesman for the Pentagon told CNN; However, the Pentagon provided little guidance as to which of the hundreds of projects listed would be cut or delayed to shifts funds to build the wall: Buccino said that no military housing, barracks, or dormitory projects will be impacted and that only projects with award dates after September 30 will be potentially tapped: The Defense Department has been slammed by Congress in recent weeks over substandard military housing CNN reported.

Some projects that appear to meet the criteria, and could potentially be on the chopping block, include a command and control facility and drone hangar in South Korea, a Special Operations Forces training facility in Estonia, a Cyber Operations facility in Virginia, a mission training complex in Germany and a Joint Reserve Intelligence Center in Louisiana: Some projects that appear to meet the criteria and which could potentially be on the chopping block include a command and control facility located at Camp Tango in South Korea and a mission training complex in Germany.

A Pentagon cover sheet accompanying the list says that once that criteria is applied the remaining project list “has a total value that is in excess of the amount needed to source potential section 2808 projects,” referring to the legal authority that allows the transfer of funds during a national emergency:

Sen. Jack Reed, the ranking Democrat on the Senate Armed Services Committee who elicited a promise from Shanahan to provide the list last week during a committee hearing, slammed the Trump administration over its content: “We know President Trump wants to take money from our national security accounts to pay for his wall, and now we have a list of some of the projects and needed base repairs that could be derailed or put on the chopping block as a result,” Reed said in a statement: Reed added that he hoped the list of potential projects would convince additional senators to vote against Trump’s declaration of a national emergency to secure a veto proof majority; “A bipartisan majority of Congress went on record in voting to rebuke this ill-conceived idea. Now that members of Congress can see the potential impact this proposal could have on projects in their home states, I hope they will take that into consideration before the vote to override the President’s veto,” Reed said.

Evan Hollander, a spokesperson for Democratic Rep. Nita Lowey, chair of the House Appropriations Committee, also reacted angrily stating: “Today’s submission is just a list that tells Congress what projects it already approved, and is nothing more than another stall tactic designed to delay the political consequences of President Trump’s emergency declaration.”

“All construction projects will proceed on schedule if the Department’s FY2020 budget is enacted on time and as requested,” Buccino said: However, it’s unclear given the strong opposition from some sections of Congress whether the defense budget proposed by the administration will be passed.

#AceNewsReport – Mar.18: Two boys aged 16 and 17 and a girl aged 17 died after a large crowd of young people are believed to have pushed up against the Greenvale Hotel in Cookstown, County Tyrone, causing dozens to fall to the ground on top of one another: Witnesses told of scenes of panic, with as many as 100 teens pushed off their feet and trapped in a press of bodies, as shocked onlookers attempted to resuscitate youngsters pulled out of the crush by emergency services MailOnline reported.

A 16-year-old girl is in a stable condition in hospital, while a further two teenagers were treated for injuries they suffered during the incident at about 9.30pm: One teenager told the Ulster Herald he was pinned down with other youngsters on top of him, in a crush of almost 100 teens who had fallen to the floor, for about 20 minutes.

ACC Hamilton added: ‘We are of an open mind … it looks like a crowd of young people, a large crowd, pushing up against the front of the hotel to get in to this event: ‘People then seem to have fallen and then got crushed. I would urge you to use that with some caution. Certainly it appears to be at the minute a crush, people have fallen and then been fatally injured: He went on: ‘We also have reports of some fighting after the incident commenced and at least one person has reported that they were assaulted.’

But in confusing scenes, other witnesses denied there had been a ‘crush’ with the venue’s DJ claiming a ‘number of young people had become seriously ill’.

(WASHINGTON) JUST IN: FAA Delegated safety assessment of 737Max’s certification to Boeing according to Seattle Times reporting on Sunday based on interviews with current and former employees directly involved or familiar with the evaluations and asked not to be identified as its revealed Preliminary black box data from the Ethiopian Airlines crash reveals “similarities” to October’s Lion Air crash, Ethiopian transport minister says #AceNewsDesk reports

#AceNewsReport – Mar.17: In one of the most detailed descriptions yet of the relationship between Boeing and the Federal Aviation Administration during the 737 Max’s certification process, the Seattle Times reported Sunday that the U.S. regulator delegated much of the safety assessment to Boeing and that the analysis the planemaker in turn delivered to the authorities had crucial flaws: The newspaper’s report was based on interviews with current and former engineers directly involved or familiar with the evaluations, all of whom asked not to be identified, and was under way even before the Ethiopia crash: Boeing told the newspaper Saturday that the FAA had reviewed the company’s data on the plane and “concluded that it met all certification and regulatory requirements.

The company, which is based in Chicago but designs and builds commercial jets in the Seattle area, said there are “some significant mischaracterizations” in the engineers’ comments: Boeing’s System Safety Analysis of the flight control software — suspected to have contributed to the Lion Air jetliner crash in October and also under the spotlight in the Ethiopia accident — understated the power of the system, the engineers told the Seattle Times: The newspaper said the analysis also failed to account how the system could reset itself each time a pilot responded — in essence, gradually ratcheting the horizontal stabilizer into a dive position.

FAA technical experts told the newspaper that as the agency’s certification of the 737 Max proceeded, managers prodded them to speed up the process as development of the MAX was nine months behind that of the rival Airbus’s A32neo: The Seattle Times said the safety analysis ranked a potential failure of the Manoeuvring Characteristics Augmentation System, or MCAS, as “hazardous,” one step below “catastrophic.” But even that designation should have been enough to prod reliance on more than just one input sensor, the engineers told the newspaper.

#AceNewsReport – Mar.17: The homeless man accused of killing decorated Iowa State University golfer Celia Barquin Arozamena wrote a note indicating that he wanted to plead guilty, reports stated: Collin Richards, 22, is accused of killing Barquin, an international student from Spain studying at Iowa State University in September.

Collin Richards, who is accused of killing college golfer, Celia Barquin Arozamena, was linked to three knives police recovered during their investigation.

The civil engineering student, who was Iowa State’s Female Athlete of the Year, died of multiple stab wounds: Her body was found in a pond on the Coldwater Golf Links in Ames, Iowa: District Judge Bethany Currie said she read the letter from Richards on Thursday, the Des Moines Register reported. The handwritten note, with multiple spelling errors, read: “I would like to take care of my case, I would like to do (whatever) it is to move forward ending the case, (plea) of guilty if it takes that thank you & sorry I do plead guilty.” The media outlet reported that this was not the first time Richards “filed a handwritten letter in court.” In December, he wrote a note asking the judge to help him “with documents in his case.”

Richards was charged with first-degree murder and ordered jailed on a $5 million cash-only bond at the county jail. He pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder. His trial is slated to begin in September and if convicted, he could face life in prison.

Richards was reportedly living in a tent in a temporary camp near the golf course, and he allegedly told an acquaintance about his “urge to rape and kill a woman,” according to the complaint: Police said they recovered a knife in Richards’ possession and noted he had several scratches on his face and a deep laceration on his left hand.

The Des Moines Register reported that Richards has an extensive criminal history including a January 2015 incident where he threated to shoot store clerks when they confronted him about stealing two energy drinks at a Bayard convenience store: Barquin, a native of Puente San Miguel, Spain, became the second women’s golfer at Iowa State to earn medalist honours at a conference tournament when claiming the 2018 Big 12 Championship. The 22-year-old was one of the university’s most accomplished golfers in its history.

(ALABAMA) Latest: African-American woman Elecia R. Dexter who was named publisher and editor of the Democrat-Reporter of Linden that that took over last month after the previous editor Goodloe Sutton who recently urged the Ku Klux Klan to “night ride again” has stepped down as she can no longer work with him over his outspoken comments that he denies #AceNewsDesk reports

#AceNewsReport – Mar.17: Elecia R. Dexter, who took over the troubled Democrat-Reporter of Linden last month, told CNN Saturday that she left the weekly newspaper Monday because she could no longer work with owner and former editor and publisher Goodloe Sutton. He penned a staggering editorial with the headline “The Klan Needs to Ride Again” in the February 14 edition: Dexter said she resigned “so that her integrity and well-being can be maintained.” Attempts to reach Sutton for comment were unsuccessful.

Elecia R. Dexter has stepped down as Publisher and Editor of the Democrat-Reporter

Sutton’s editorial sparked outrage around the country: “Time for the Ku Klux Klan to night ride again,” Sutton wrote. “Democrats in the Republican Party and Democrats are plotting to raise taxes in Alabama.” Sutton then fuelled the controversy further, telling the Montgomery Advertiser that he urged the white supremacist group to “clean out D.C.” via lynchings. “We’ll get the hemp ropes out, loop them over a tall limb and hang all of them,” Sutton told the newspaper: He stressed that he wasn’t calling for the hangings of all Americans, just the “socialist-communists.””Seem like the Klan would be welcome to raid the gated communities up there,” Sutton wrote in the editorial.

This is the editorial that ran in the Democrat-Reporter newspaper on February 14.This is the editorial that ran in the Democrat-Reporter newspaper on February 14.

Beginning in the late 19th century, Klan members used night rides to terrorize blacks and their white allies with violence, including lynchings and firebombing: When asked by the Advertiser if he recognised the Klan as a white supremacist group, Sutton compared it to the NAACP and said, “The Klan wasn’t violent until they needed to be.”

The fallout was immediate. US Sen. Doug Jones, D-Alabama, and others called for Sutton to resign: The University of Southern Mississippi’s School of Communication said it removed Sutton, an alumnus, from its Mass Communication and Journalism Hall of Fame “in light of Mr. Sutton’s recent and continued history of racist remarks.”Auburn University’s Journalism Advisory Council also stripped Sutton of its 2009 distinguished community journalism award.

The editor of an Alabama newspaper is calling for the return of the Ku Klux Klan's infamous night rides

Dexter was abruptly promoted last month in a bid to steer the paper in a “new direction,” the Democrat-Reporter said. The paper described its new editor and publisher as a “strategic leader with expertise in human resources, operations and change management.” But less than a month later, Dexter is out. She described a bizarre and short-lived tenure at the helm of weekly where she started as a clerk and assumed the top job despite having no journalism experience.

Sutton, she said, sent out an altered version of the February 28 issue to various media outlets that included a prominent story defending his Klan editorial and attacking the Montgomery Advertiser reporter who interviewed him; Dexter said she had to put out a press release calling the issue a falsification created without her authorisation.

Dexter, in a separate news release, also accused Sutton of interfering with Thursday’s edition of the paper, saying it did not reflect her “views or thoughts.” She said she was stepping down and that the paper was being sold: “The decision to accept the role of Publisher/Editor of The Democrat Reporter was an honor and I have no regrets,” she wrote. “I am not discouraged, healing will come to the wonderful and loving people here.”

Linden is a town of about 2,000 people in west-central Alabama. Sutton told USA Today in 2015 that The Democrat-Reporter’s circulation, once more than 7,000, had fallen to about 3,000 subscribers: The Klan piece isn’t the first controversial editorial in its pages.

In October 2017, the paper published an editorial about NFL players kneeling during the National Anthem to protest police brutality and racial injustice: “Some of the news programs are making a big to-do about black football players kneeling in the stadium,” the editorial said. “That’s what black folks were taught to do two hundred years ago, kneel before a white man.”

A July 2016 editorial mocked President Barack Obama, calling him “the Kenyan King,” and complained about the “way uncivilized tribes in Africa still run things.”………..In April, the paper ran a political cartoon that ridiculed Palestinians.
