(HOUSTON, Texas.) Court Report: Latest: A former Texas doctor Shafeeq Sheikh who was found guilty on Thursday of raping a heavily sedated patient will not serve time in prison for his crime after jurors on Friday recommended sentencing of 10-years probation and register as a sex offender #AceNewsDesk reports

#AceNewsReport – Aug.20: Shafeeq Sheikh, a former physician at Baylor College of Medicine, was sentenced to 10 years of probation on Friday and will have to register as a sex offender. A 12-person jury found him guilty of sexually assaulting a patient five years prior, the Houston Chronicle reported: The jurors had recommended the sentencing, to which visiting Senior District Judge Terry L. Flenniken was required to follow by law, according to the newspaper……………..Sheikh was working the night shift at Houston’s Ben Taub Hospital in 2013 when a woman, previously identified as Laura, was admitted for shortness of breath and wheezing. She was in the hospital overnight and sedated when Sheikh came to her room several times during the night and sexually assaulted her #AceNewsDesk reports

Shafeeq Sheikh

The former Baylor doctor received 10 years probation for raping a patient in 2013 at Ben Taub Hospital. (Houston Police Department)

Laura said she attempted to get help from a nurse, but the call button wouldn’t work

DNA evidence was collected from a rape kit — but it took two years for charges to be filed against Sheikh. The DNA collected from the former doctor’s cheek swab match those in a rape kit……………………….Surveillance video also captured Sheikh on the floor where the woman’s room was located. He used his badge to swipe onto her floor at least 12 times that night.

“He sought her out. He chose her to prey on,” Assistant District Attorney Lauren Reeder said during Friday’s sentencing. “You know he’s the type of man who would go in multiple times, testing the waters, seeing how far he could go and get back to his normal business after that.”

“You know he’s the kind man of who walked around for two years before he was charged with this… knowing what he did,” she added…………………During the trial, the doctor admitted to the sexual contact with the woman, but insisted it was consensual. His lawyers also pleaded with the jury to show some compassion to Sheikh, his wife and children, who also suffered consequences due to the 46-year-old’s actions.

The dreams of a man, the childhood dream to become a doctor, were shattered by his conduct. He destroyed his own dreams,” Sheikh’s lawyer Stanley Schneider said. “What he has done to himself and his family is punishment. They are serving his sentence with him. His children are serving his sentence with him.”

Sheikh has since left the hospital. The Texas Medical Board revoked his license in 2015 after they found he was a “continuing threat to public welfare.”

Laura, now 32, said after the sentencing that she wanted to move on from the incident. She told KHOU11 in 2015 that she believes there are other victims.

(WASHINGTON) EXCLUSIVE: Senator Rand Paul believes that #WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange should be given im munity in exchange for him testifying before the Senate Intelligence Committee: We are seriously considering the offer but must ensure Mr Assange’s protection is guaranteed,” Jennifer Robinson, a memb er of Assange’s legal team, told CNN. #AceNewsDesk reports

#AceNewsReport – Aug.19: Speaking to the Gateway Pundit, Senator Paul asserted that Assange likely has important information about the hack and that it’s unlikely he would agree to testify without immunity #AceNewsDesk reports

“I think that he should be given immunity from prosecution in exchange for coming to the United States and testifying,” Senator Paul told the Gateway Pundit. “I think he’s been someone who has released a lot of information, and you can debate whether or not any of that has caused harm, but I think really he has information that is probably pertinent to the hacking of the Democratic emails that would be nice to hear.”

“It’s probably unlikely to happen unless he is given some type of immunity from prosecution,” Senator Paul added.

In a letter delivered to the Ecuadorian Embassy in London, where Assange has resided for the past six years, Committee Chairman Senator Richard Burr requested that he make himself available for a closed hearing at a “mutually agreeable time and place.”

The committee has requested for him to appear in person, but Assange, in theory, could testify through the use of a video livestream. The only technical hinderance would be the fact that the Ecuadorian government cut off Assange’s internet and communications in March, under pressure from the US government.

“The inquiry has asked for him to appear in person at a mutually agreeable time and place. We are seriously considering the offer but must ensure Mr Assange’s protection is guaranteed,” Jennifer Robinson, a member of Assange’s legal team, told CNN.

Christine Assange, Julian’s mother, has a list of things that she would like to see happen before her son agrees to testify. She told the Gateway Pundit that her wishes include an end to the WikiLeaks grand jury, a dismissal of charges against all WikiLeaks staff, safe passage for him to a nation where he can receive medical care and an agreement that there will be no future US extradition requests. She would also like to see the testimony conducted publicly through Skype.

Senator Burr’s office repeatedly declined Gateway Pundit’s multiple requests for comment about the issue.

Both Senator Paul’s father Ron Paul and the senator’s Chief Strategist Doug Stafford signed an open letter published by the Gateway Pundit in April calling for Assange’s communications to be restored, for the United States to end the Grand Jury investigation into WikiLeaks, and for any charges against the publisher and all other staff members to be dropped.

(WASHINGTON) HUD Files Lawsuit Against ‘ Facebook ‘ on Friday over violating the ‘ Fair Housing Act ‘ that ‘ Allows Landlords and Home Sellers ‘ to use ‘ Target ed Advertising ‘ to discriminate against potential buyers or tenants based on race, sex, religion, disability or other characteristics … Facebook responded with stock phrase there is no place for discrimination on Facebook #AceNewsDesk reports

#AceNewsReports – Aug.18: The agency filed a formal complaint against the social media company on Friday, alleging that it allows landlords and home sellers to use targeted Facebook (FB) ads to discriminate against potential buyers or tenants on the basis of race, sex, religion, disability and other characteristics: “When Facebook uses the vast amount of personal data it collects to help advertisers to discriminate, it’s the same as slamming the door in someone’s face,” Anna María Farías, assistant secretary for fair housing and equal opportunity, said in a statement #AceNewsDesk reports

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) announced today a formal complaint against Facebook for violating the Fair Housing Act by allowing landlords and home sellers to use its advertising platform to engage in housing discrimination.

HUD claims Facebook enables advertisers to control which users receive housing-related ads based upon the recipient’s race, color, religion, sex, familial status, national origin, disability, and/or zip code. Facebook then invites advertisers to express unlawful preferences by offering discriminatory options, allowing them to effectively limit housing options for these protected classes under the guise of ‘targeted advertising.’ Read HUD’s complaint against Facebook.

“The Fair Housing Act prohibits housing discrimination including those who might limit or deny housing options with a click of a mouse,” said Anna María Farías, HUD’s Assistant Secretary for Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity. “When Facebook uses the vast amount of personal data it collects to help advertisers to discriminate, it’s the same as slamming the door in someone’s face.”

The Fair Housing Act prohibits discrimination in housing transactions including print and online advertisement on the basis of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, disability, or familial status. HUD’s Secretary-initiated complaint follows the Department’s investigation into Facebook’s advertising platform which includes targeting tools that enable advertisers to filter prospective tenants or homebuyers based on these protected classes.

For example, HUD’s complaint alleges Facebook’s platform violates the Fair Housing Act. It enables advertisers to, among other things:

  • display housing ads either only to men or women;
  • not show ads to Facebook users interested in an “assistance dog,” “mobility scooter,” “accessibility” or “deaf culture”;
  • not show ads to users whom Facebook categorizes as interested in “child care” or “parenting,” or show ads only to users with children above a specified age;
  • to display/not display ads to users whom Facebook categorizes as interested in a particular place of worship, religion or tenet, such as the “Christian Church,” “Sikhism,” “Hinduism,” or the “Bible.”
  • not show ads to users whom Facebook categorizes as interested in “Latin America,” “Canada,” “Southeast Asia,” “China,” “Honduras,” or “Somalia.”
  • draw a red line around zip codes and then not display ads to Facebook users who live in specific zip codes.

Additionally, Facebook promotes its advertising targeting platform for housing purposes with “success stories” for finding “the perfect homeowners,” “reaching home buyers,” “attracting renters” and “personalizing property ads.”

In addition, today the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York (SDNY) filed a statement of interest, joined in by HUD, in U.S. District Court on behalf of a number of private litigants challenging Facebook’s advertising platform.

HUD Secretary-Initiated Complaints

The Secretary of HUD may file a fair housing complaint directly against those whom the Department believes may be in violation of the Fair Housing Act. Secretary-Initiated Complaints are appropriate in cases, among others, involving significant issues that are national in scope or when the Department is made aware of potential violations of the Act and broad public interest relief is warranted or where HUD does not know of a specific aggrieved person or injured party that is willing or able to come forward. A Fair Housing Act complaint, including a Secretary initiated complaint, is not a determination of liability.

A Secretary-Initiated Complaint will result in a formal fact-finding investigation. The party against whom the complaint is filed will be provided notice and an opportunity to respond. If HUD’s investigation results in a determination that reasonable cause exists that there has been a violation of the Fair Housing Act, a charge of discrimination may be filed. Throughout the process, HUD will seek conciliation and voluntary resolution. Charges may be resolved through settlement, through referral to the Department of Justice, or through an administrative determination.

Persons who believe they have experienced discrimination may file a complaint by contacting HUD’s Office of Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity at (800) 669-9777 (voice) or (800) 927-9275 (TTY).

CNN reported that Facebook responded to the allegation with a statement insisting that “there is no place for discrimination on Facebook; it’s strictly prohibited in our policies. Over the past year we’ve strengthened our systems to further protect against misuse… and we’ll continue working directly with HUD to address their concerns.”

The federal Fair Housing Act prohibits home rental and sale advertisements from discriminating “based on race, color, religion, sex, handicap, familial status, or national origin.”

In its complaint, the federal housing agency outlined several ways landlords or sellers can use Facebook ads to do just that. They could, for example, decide to show the ads to only men, or ensure that their ads don’t appear in the feeds of anyone with “accessibility” listed as an interest.

The National Fair Housing Alliance made the same argument in a federal lawsuit against the social media company. The case, filed in March in New York City, claims that Facebook’s advertising tools continue to allow marketers to exclude women and families with children from seeing certain housing ads.

Diane L. Houk, one of the attorneys who filed that suit, called Friday’s complaint “a very important step by HUD to enforce the Fair Housing Act.”

HUD and the US Attorney for the Southern District of New York also filed documents bolstering the suit brought by the housing advocates. In a statement of interest filed with the court, they rejected Facebook’s argument that it is protected from the federal housing law by the Communications Decency Act, which limits the liability of website operators.

The government argued that Facebook should in this case be classified as an internet content provider and is therefore subject to the Fair Housing Act.

Facebook said it “will respond in court” to the statement of interest

Some of the details outlined in the HUD complaint, such as accusations of exclusion based on religion or an interest in “deaf culture” do not appear in the lawsuit filed by the National Fair Housing Alliance.

Houk said it is “very troubling to see that these categories are still available,” especially “given the amount of public statements and coverage … over the last two years.”

According to the HUD complaint, the alleged violations occurred as recently as last month. But Facebook has faced such accusations since 2016, when ProPublica reported posting an ad for a housing event that it requested not be shown to anyone with what Facebook’s ad tool callsan “ethnic affinity” of African-American, Asian-American or Hispanic.

“Our policies prohibit using our targeting options to discriminate, and they require compliance with the law,” a Facebook spokesperson said in a statement at the time. “We take prompt enforcement action when we determine that ads violate our policies.”

ProPublica said last year that it was able to buy dozens of home rental advertisements targeted toward audiences that specifically excluded “African Americans, mothers of high school kids, people interested in wheelchair ramps, Jews, expats from Argentina and Spanish speakers.”

(MELBOURNE, Australia.) Apple Servers supposed to be unable to be ‘ Hacked ‘ but a 16-year old student who dreamt of working for the company proves that to be wrong by breaking into them and downloading some 900GB of secure files, keys and granting user logins FBI and police investigated and found he had been accessing their systems for about a year #AceNewsDesk reports

#AceNewsReport – Aug.17: A schoolboy who “dreamed” of working for Apple hacked the firm’s computer systems, Australian media has reported, although the tech giant said Friday no customer data was compromised: The Children’s Court of Victoria was told the teenager broke into Apple’s mainframe — a large, powerful data processing system — from his home in the suburbs of Melbourne and downloaded 90GB of secure files, The Age reported late Thursday #AceNewsDesk reports

The boy, then aged 16, accessed the system multiple times over a year as he was a fan of Apple and had “dreamed of” working for the US firm, the newspaper said, citing his lawyer: Apple said in a statement Friday that its teams “discovered the unauthorised access, contained it, and reported the incident to law enforcement”.

The firm, which earlier this month became the first private-sector company to surpass US$1 trillion in market value, said it wanted “to assure our customers that at no point during this incident was their personal data compromised”.

An international investigation was launched after the discovery involving the FBI and the Australian Federal Police, The Age reported.

The federal police said it could not comment on the case as it is still before the court.

The Age said police raided the boy’s home last year and found hacking files and instructions saved in a folder called “hacky hack hack”.

“Two Apple laptops were seized and the serial numbers matched the serial numbers of the devices which accessed the internal systems,” a prosecutor was reported as saying.

A mobile phone and hard drive were also seized whose IP address matched those detected in the breaches, he added.

The teen has pleaded guilty and the case is due to return to court for his sentencing next month.

Well, there’s something quite embarrassing for Apple fans. Though Apple servers are widely believed to be unhackable, a 16-year-old high school student proved that nothing is impossible: The teenager from Melbourne, Australia, managed to break into Apple servers and downloaded some 90GB of secure files, including extremely secure authorized keys used to grant login access to users, as well

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of California released this image of Omar Ameen on Aug. 15, 2018.

Ameen, who was in the process of attaining a green card, is wanted in Iraq on a murder charge: He’s accused of the 2014 killing of a police officer in the town of Rawa. An Iraqi warrant for his arrest was issued in May: Ameen, 45, made an initial appearance in court in the Eastern District of California on Wednesday. His next court date is Monday afternoon. He is being held in the Sacramento County jail.

CNN reached out to Ameen’s attorneys Wednesday night but was unable to get a comment. The Sacramento Bee reported federal defenders Benjamin Galloway and Douglas Beevers told a judge that they received the case minutes before Ameen appeared before a judge.

“He’s aware of the basic nature of the charges,” Beevers said in court, according to the Bee.

Suspected ISIS member arrested; FBI searches Sacramento apartment,” KCRA, August 15, 2018:

FBI agents searched a Sacramento apartment unit Wednesday, where a suspected ISIS member was living and was wanted in connection with the killing of an Iraqi police officer, according to court documents.

Omar Abdulsattar Ameen, 45, was arrested Wednesday and is being held without bail in Sacramento County Jail. He had settled in Sacramento as a purported refugee and attempted to gain legal status in the United States, according to the Department of Justice.

According to court documents, investigators said Ameen lied on his refugee application to gain access to the Unites States.

FBI agents began showing up about 8 a.m. at the Eastern Villa Apartments on Eastern Avenue, and agents cleared the scene at about 1:30 p.m.

FBI agents, along with Sacramento County sheriff’s deputies and Metro Fire personnel, were seen going in and out of apartment No. 26 and searched several vehicles at the complex.

Agents were wearing jackets with the words “Joint Terrorism Task Force” in yellow letters on the back.

An arrest warrant was issued for Ameen on May 16 by the Baghdad Federal Al-Karkh Appellate Court after he was charged with premeditated murder, court documents show.

ISIS entered the Rawah District of Al-Anbar Province in Iraq and seized control of the district on June 21, 2014, preventing citizens from entering or exiting the district.

The following day, a four-vehicle ISIS convoy carrying several people, including Ameen, stopped at the family home of an Iraqi police officer and opened fire, documents said.

Ameen fired his weapon at the officer while the victim was on the ground, hitting him in the chest, according to court records.

Soon after, a post appeared on social media celebrating the killing: “[Today] is the day to eliminate some rotten heads. Now in Rawah, the criminal Ihsan [Adbulhafiz] has been eliminated at the hands of Mujahidin.”

The FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force has been investigating Ameen since 2016 for suspected violations, including fraud and misuse of visa, permits and other documents….

Having been deleted on Facebook earlier this year, Telesur had been “even more careful” with its posts and broke “absolutely none” of Facebook’s terms, the network’s former director Pablo Vivanco told RT.

Telesur has broadcast worldwide in Spanish since 2005, and in English since 2014. Its Facebook page had almost 400,000 likes. The network is based in Caracas, Venezuela, and receives funding from the governments of Venezuela, Cuba, Nicaragua, Uruguay and Bolivia.

Under the Trump administration, the US has taken a hard line on Venezuela, disputing the legitimacy of the country’s elections and calling President Nicolas Maduro a “dictator.”

Last week, Facebook deleted the page of Venezualanalysis, an outlet unrelated to Telesur that offered leftist commentary on Latin American affairs. Though Facebook later reinstated the page, Venezualanalysis received no apology or explanation for its removal.

In May, Facebook announced it was partnering with the Atlantic Council, a NATO-allied think-tank, to fight “emerging threats and disinformation campaigns from around the world.” The partnership has raised concerns about Facebook restricting content on the platform on the basis of political views.

(PENNSYLVANIA) Grand Jury Report: Says that internal documents from six Catholic dioceses in Pennsylvania sh ow that more than 300 “predator priests” have been credibly accused of sexually abusi ng more than 1,000 child victims dating back to 1947 #AceNewsDesk reports

#AceNewsReport – Aug.15: We believe that the real number of children whose records were lost, or who were afraid ever to come forward is in the thousands,” the grand jury report says: The lengthy report, released Tuesday afternoon, investigates clergy sexual abuse in six dioceses dating back to 1947. Pennsylvania’s two other dioceses, Philadelphia and Altoona-Johnstown, were the subjects of earlier grand jury reports, which found similarly damaging information about clergy and bishops in those dioceses #AceNewsDesk reports

Watch Video

“There have been other reports about child sex abuse within the Catholic Church. But never on this scale,” the grand jurors wrote in Tuesday’s report: “For many of us, those earlier stories happened someplace else, someplace away. Now we know the truth: it happened everywhere.”

The Church has said that the grand jury’s inquiry dates to 1947

Court action had delayed the report’s publication. A number of individuals named in the report claimed that its findings were false or misleading, that they were denied due process of law and that its release would impair their reputations.

On July 27, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court ordered the grand jury report to be released by 2 p.m. on Aug. 14 with redactions in sections where litigation was ongoing.

State Attorney General Josh Shapiro had written to the head of the Roman Catholic Church, Pope Francis, on July 25, requesting that the Pontiff direct church leaders to stop “efforts to silence the survivors.”

“A comprehensive investigation by the Office of Attorney General found widespread sexual abuse of children and a systematic coverup by leaders of the Catholic Church,” Shapiro said in his letter. “Last month I planned to release the findings of our investigation. As I prepared to do so, anonymous petitioners implicated in this report went to court to stop me and silence the victims …”

Shapiro later issued a statement welcoming the state supreme court’s decision to allow the report’s release.

“Our fear throughout this process has been that the entire grand jury report would be shelved and victims’ truth would be silenced,” Shapiro said. “Today’s order ensures that will not be the case — the redacted report on widespread sexual abuse and cover up within the Catholic Church will be released.”

“I will continue to fight to ensure every single victim is heard and every priest, bishop and church official is held accountable for their abhorrent conduct. No one victim’s truth is any less important than another and no one’s criminal conduct any less loathsome.”

Harrisburg abuse list

On Aug. 1, the leader of one of the largest Roman Catholic dioceses in Pennsylvania released a list identifying 71 priests, deacons and seminarians accused of “substantiated” sexual misconduct over the past seven decades.

Bishop Ronald Gainer of the Harrisburg Diocese also issued an apology on behalf of the religious community.

“That conduct has left a legacy of pain and sorrow that is still being felt,” he wrote. “I apologize for these actions.”

While most men on the Harrisburg list are accused of sexually abusing children, others were investigated for inappropriate behavior, such as kissing or inappropriately communicating with a minor, Gainer wrote. Others were accused of viewing or possessing child pornography.

The list did not say how the diocese handled most of the accusations and did not give the men’s current whereabouts, though a few cases that were forwarded to civil authorities were more detailed.

Archbishop’s resignation

A long series of abuse allegations have rocked the world’s 1.2 billion Catholics since the scope of systemic abuse and cover-ups began emerging in 2002.

In July, Pope Francis accepted the https://acenewsservices.wordpress.com/2018/07/28/vatican-city-rome-just-in-pope-francis-accepts-the-resignation-of-american-cardinal-theodore-mccarrick-who-once-led-the-archdiocese-of-washington-who-has-been-accused-of-sexual-abuse-of-a-teenage/ from the College of Cardinals, one of the church’s most powerful bodies, amid allegations of molestation and sexual misconduct. McCarrick, 88, had been a popular and politically influential leader in Washington. He maintained his innocence in June against some claims and has been unavailable to comment on others.

The sexual abuse accusations against McCarrick reveal a “grievous moral failure” within the Catholic Church, the president of the US Conference of Catholic Bishops said July 31.

“Our Church is suffering from a crisis of sexual morality,” Daniel DiNardo said. “The way forward must involve learning from past sins.”
